5K Race for Brain Cancer Awareness

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

South Jordan, Utah—Friends of Trisha Thurber are hosting a 5K race and a 2K child walk in South Jordan to raise money for her medical expenses. The event will be held on Sept. 29, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. at 11350 S. 4000 W. South Jordan, Utah.

The suggested donation for the event is $25 for adults and $10 for children. These funds will go directly to Thurber for her medical expenses.

“The 5k race is an event for friends and family to attend to show support,” said Holly Jones, friend of Thurber. “Trisha has been diagnosed with more medical conditions. She is a strong woman fighting against cancer.”

Thurber was first diagnosed with a grade 3 brain tumor (Anaplastic Astrocyrtoma) in April 2011. Since then, she has been diagnosed with skin cancer, and a second grade 3 brain tumor. Doctors have suggested that she may have a third brain tumor, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Thurber has attended chemotherapy since May 2011. She has had two brain surgeries, eye surgery, skin surgery and 12 weeks of daily radiation treatments. Due to her illness, Thurber was not able to keep her job as a programmer at Hill Air Force Base. She has moved out of her home, sold most of her belongings and has used her savings to pay for all expenses.

“Trisha is a strong person and has been trying hard to stay positive, active and by following a strict diet,” said Jones. “She reminds friends and family that life is precious.”

Donations will be accepted at the event. Checks can be written directly to Trisha Thurber. Registration and credit card payments can be made beforehand at www.trotfortrisha.blogspot.com
